TEAM NOTES OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

       TO:                      ALL PLAYERS/PARENTS

       FROM:                 Matt Schmidt

I would like to personally congratulate you for being chosen to represent the Metro FC U15 Girls White team.  How we will perform throughout the course of the season has EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE MENTAL ATTITUDE OF ALL OF OUR PLAYERS.

We are all a member of the T – E – A – M, and it is critical to understand that TEAM stands for: TOGETHER EVERYONE ACHIEVES MORE.  Everything we do is done as a team effort.

Our main mission this season is: to play exciting, skillful, aggressive, attacking, and winning soccer to entertain our fans, friends, and parents.  EVERY TIME you step on the field, you MUST be prepared to give every thing that you have for the TEAM!

It is critical that you remain totally focused from the moment you arrive at the playing field – to the very last whistle.  You may rest at the half and after the game but, during the game I expect 110% effort both mentally and physically.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE ABILITY OF YOUR OPPONENT!  NEVER UNDERESTIMATE YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES!  You must understand the word CAN’T does not exist, change the mental image you have of your skills and abilities.

On the way to the match in the car, visualize yourself making the trap in traffic, or making the supporting run opening up a lane for the player with the ball.  The mind is an incredibly complex thing and you can do ANYTHING you put your mind to – ANYTHING!

OUR MOTTO: SPORTS – IT IS A CHANCE FOR OTHER HUMAN BEINGS TO PUSH US TO EXCEL!

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF SUCCESS

In order to achieve success both on and off the field, I can’t stress enough the following factors:

        FOCUS                                    DETERMINATION

        CONCENTRATION                TEAM SPIRIT

        DESIRE TO LEARN                TEAM PRIDE

        POSITIVE ATTITUDE           DESIRE TO WIN

                                NEVER GIVE UP

If TEAM members sincerely desire to work hard to condition yourselves both MENTALLY & PHYSICALLY to improve your skills, follow training sessions, exhibit good sportsmanship on and off the field WE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!

Any player who exhibits poor sportsmanship on the field has some improving to do.  If any player gets ejected because of failure to control her/his temper this attitude directly affects the level of play and concentration of the TEAM.  Poor sportsmanship is a self defeating attitude, whether it takes the form of verbal displays, temper displays, bragging or gloating after a victory WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

SUCCESS IN SOCCER:

The effective blending of both Mental & Physical conditioning.

We must work hard and give everything you have for the team.  You must constantly challenge yourself and put yourself in uncomfortable positions in order to grow not only as a player but also as a person.

PERSEVERANCE:

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but, rather a lack of will!

PARENTS:

MUST REFRAIN FROM ONLY CHEERING FOR THEIR OWN CHILDREN – WE ARE A TEAM.

MUST REFRAIN FROM GIVING PLAYERS DIRECTIONS FROM THE STANDS.

THIS IS CRITICAL TO OUR SUCCESS AS A TEAM!

TEAM RULES & REGULATIONS:

1]     A professional attitude on and off the playing field is a must.

2]     I will not tolerate swearing of any kind.  Any player who fails to abide by this rule will perform 25 push ups and 25 sit ups for each swear word.  This is to be performed immediately during practice.  If swearing takes place during the course of a match, the push ups and sit ups will take place immediately following the last whistle.  If I observe failure to abide by this rule, the amount may be doubled.

3]     I will not tolerate conduct that is detrimental to the TEAM.  You must remain focused the entire match.  IF you make a mistake, shake it off and get back into the game.  Remember, most goals are scored because of a mistake whether in a midfield third or defensive third.  If your teammate makes a mistake encourage her positively ONLY.

IF YOU HAVE NOTHING POSITIVE TO SAY – SAY NOTHING!

It is critical to react quickly when you lose the ball, I expect that all players want to win and in order to win we need the ball.

Pele, one of the best soccer players in the world once said: ‘When you control the ball, you control the score.’

4]     If you know you are going to be late or miss a training session entirely, please call me ahead of time and let me know – this means the player must call me.  If we do not have enough players to train, we may not have practice.  Failure to contact me regarding missing a training session may affect your playing time in the following match.

5]     Please wear the following to practice: WHITE, t-shirt; blue, white, black, or red shorts; and blue, white, black, or red socks – game socks are fine. You are representing the Metro FC soccer organization – represent with PRIDE!

7]    Please bring a properly inflated ball, plenty of water, extra clothes, and a great positive attitude.  Please wear appropriate clothing for training.  Please make every effort to be early [15 minutes] to training so we can start on time.

8]     ALWAYS respect your opponent, and be the first one to congratulate them on their success [the game is over, you are expected to honestly and sincerely congratulate your opponent – win or lose!]

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH LOSING WHEN WE GAVE EVERYTHING WE HAD FOR THE TEAM EFFORT.  Conversely, there IS a problem with losing, when we did not perform to the best of our abilities.

9]     NEVER argue or question a call with the referee!  It is a poor reflection of you as a person or player, but, also your parents, your TEAM, CLUB or SCHOOL, and last but not least – ME!  THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS – IF YOU ARGUE OR TALK BACK TO THE REFEREE– YOU WILL SIT AND WATCH!  The referee will not change her/his mind no matter how much you argue or plead your case, and we need not play a man down!

10]    YELLOW/RED CARDS: will deal with as defined in league rules.

11]     Players on the bench: will refrain from shouting or harassing the officials, opponents, or teammates.  Failure to abide by this rule and you will be asked to leave the bench for the remainder of the match.  Please be positive towards your teammates and be supportive of them.

12]    At the end of the match [win or lose] we WILL: congratulate the opposing players and coaches with a handshake and verbally express congratulations.

REMEMBER: TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT YOU MUST FIRST EXHIBIT RESPECT.

AS A MEMBER OF THE METRO FC U15 GIRLS WHITE TEAM, I AGREE TO FOLLOW THE TEAM RULES AND REGULATIONS.  I understand that based on my attitude, conduct, and behavior I may be subject to reduction in playing time.

I UNDERSTAND THAT REFEREES WILL MAKE MISTAKES, AND THAT MOST ARE TRYING THEIR HARDEST TO CALL A FAIR GAME. I REALIZE THAT WHILE I CAN SEE THE GAME FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE, THE REFEREE DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME VIEWPOINT AND MAY NOT SEE WHAT I HAVE SEEN.

FINALLY, I UNDERSTAND THAT MY CHILD MAY HAVE TIME REDUCED FROM PLAY BASED ON HER CONDUCT, ATTITUDE, AND BEHAVIOR.
